Nobody of the artists up to Levitan did not transmit with such sad force nonmeasurable distance of Russian bad weather. It so quietly and solemnly, that is felt as greatness. Levitan, just as Pushkin and Tutchev and many others, waited for autumn, as the dearest and quickness of a season. The autumn removed from forests, from fields, from the nature of dense colour, flushed away by rains greens. The groves were done through. The dark paints of a summer were replaced by shy gold, purple and silver. The autumn on pictures of Levitan is very miscellaneous. It is impossible to enumerate all autumnal days marked by him on a cloth. Levitan left about hundred "autumnal" pictures, not considering etudes. On them the things, familiar from childhood were figured: … lone golden birches, yet habitated by a wind; a palate similar to a light ice; disheviled rains above wood - stealing. But in all these landscapes, what they figured, grief of farewell days flaking pages rotting grasss, quiet buzzing of bees before chills and before the Winter of the sun hardly notably which is warming up the ground.
