In January 1910 I.A.Morozov through the Bernheim-Jeune gallery ordered to Bonnard two pictures depicting Parisian life leaving the artist the free of choice. There is no any plot in the picture. Bonnard simply enumerates the characteristic features of an early morning. The little boy wrapped up in a scarf resembles the artist himself: “Again I see myself, wrapped up, setting off for the 8 o’clock lesson to the neighboring college, in the fog – the grey cotton of winter Paris”, Bonnard wrote.
