Arkhip Kuinji (1841-1910).
is a Russian painter. He studied painting all alone. But he might take I.K. Aivazovsky's advice. Having left for St. Petersburg in 1866 Arkhip Kuinji worked as a retoucher in a photo studio. He also attended the Academy of Applied Arts. Having made a trip to France in 1875, where Arkhip Kuinji learnt the Impressionists painting, he wished for transmitting the colours of the sky in different time of a day. In 1876 he created the picture "An Ukrainian night", in which he could transmit his seeing of a southern summer night generalizing the colour and simplifying the form by the daring that nobody saw yet. The picture was the craze in that time art.
