Gauguin Paul (1847-1903) - French artist.
One of the main representatives of post-impressionism. Being the professional seaman, serving at the exchange office, he had been getting pictures of impressionists. Independently being engaged in painting and sculpture, Gauguin in 1876 already exposed one picture. Soon he took part in exhibitions of impressionists. The success of his pictures, and at the same time the financial crash, allowed Gauguin since 1883 completely devoted himself to the painting. Integrity and vital force, creative freedom and confidence distinguish his paintings. In the decorative, emotionally sated on color canvas devoted, mainly, to a life and legends Polynesian people, he had created the poetical world of the person and the nature harmony.
