Poussin Nikolas (1594-1665) – French painter. He is considered one of the main figures in a history of the European art. He possessed an extensive knowledge both in philosophy, and in the literature, was interested in the theory of art and problems of classicism, from antiquity up to the Renaissance. The initial stage of his creative work is known a little. Probably, he started to study from Rouen, and then has moved to Paris. Poussin’s style developed under the influence of two "classical" epochs, antiquity and Renaissance. He persistently followed by classical tendencies of an epoch, but besides introduced an individual note of heroism and idealism. Formulating the representations about art, reflecting above connections between the form, the content, figure, color and light, ingeniously generalizing experience of previous epoch, Poussin created classical French style - original and unique.
