Caravaggio

Êàðàâàäæî Caravaggio, it is a nickname of Michelangelo da Merisi (1571-1610) – Italian painter, the second Michelangelo, born a few years after the death of Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564), sculptor of the Pietà and painter of the Sistine Chapel. Before the leaving Lombardy and trying happiness in papal Rome, Caravaggio has spent some years in Milan. Undoubtedly, youthful years influenced greatly on this artist’s destiny as reformer. The history of Caravaggio’s formatting is connected with his ‘’success with critics’’, supporters praised him to the skies as the artist whose teacher was the nature itself. Bright colors, monophonic background, as a rule, pay attention to vitality of the plots represented in pictures. Originality of plots treatment included already in their choice and in free interpretation of traditional circuits. This innovation also marks itself a birth of realism in modern value of this word. Caravaggio was destined to electrify painting in the early years of the 17th century, causing shockwaves which would be felt throughout most of Europe as each generation of painters caught on to his revolution in easel painting. The Carravaggists (early followers in Italy, Netherlands, Flanders and Spain) were followed by the generation of giants, Rubens, Rembrandt, Vermeer and Velázquez, each borrowing from the man who painted with a striking directness that compels the spectator to participate in the action.
