Alexey Bogolyubov (1824-1896)
Alexey Bogolyubov is a Russian painter of seascapes. In 1849-1853 he attended the St. Petersburg Academy of Applied Arts. His teachers were M.N. Vorobyov and B.P. Villevalde. I.K. Aivazovsky made a dramatic impact on A. Bogolyubov's work. The fact that he finished the Naval Military School in 1841 and then served in fleet played a great role in his future life. As the artist of the Naval Headquarters from 1854 to 1860 he was given an opportunity to travel across Europe. His landscapes differ by reliability of the image of a nature. He embodied in his painting a history of the Russian fleet. Since 1873 he lived mainly in France. In 1885 he created the first Russian Provincial Art Museum and named it in honour of his grandfather, A.N. Radishev.
