Borovikovsky Vladimir

Vladimir Borovikovsky (1757-1825)
is a Russian portraitist. Before 1788 Vladimir Borovikovsky lived in Mirgorod, there he was taught by his father and his uncle, who were iconographic painters. When he left for St. Petersburg at first he listened to D.G. Levitskiy's advice, but then since 1792 he was taught by an Austrian artist I.B. Lampi. In 1795 he became an academician. That time he painted portraits of the members of an imperial families and VIP. In miniature portraits he created an individual man image, which was revealed in natural home atmosphere. In Vladimir Borovikovsky's works we can find the sentimentalism features, especially shown in portraits of women. The most famous one is a Portrait of Maria Ivanovna Lopuhina.
